You are no doubt aware of the impending ban on mobile phone use while driving. What you may not know is that the
Land Transport (Road User) Amendment Rule actually goes further - introducing a total of 19 changes
that you need to be aware of, as outlined in
this document from Land Transport.
From the 1st of November no one (yes, even ministers, parish employees and volunteers!) can make telephone calls
while driving unless they have a hands-free unit mounted in their vehicles. Text messaging while driving is banned outright.
Please ensure your people are aware of and comply with these changes.
Sometimes you may need to make calls from your vehicle when carrying out parish
duties - if so, you will need to investigate fitting a hands-free unit that complies with the new rule.
Please refer to the
Land Transport website for more information.

Hopefully your parish has enrolled in the Presbyterian Working Safe course -
a course on health and safety, tailored for parishes, that is free to all
Presbyterian parishes nationwide.
If it has been a while since you first did the course, you may be interested in the
new modules available on pastoral safety and cash handling.
If you have not yet enrolled in this course, you can still do so by emailing kimt@thinkingsafer.com
